Yo-Yo Ma has been a long-time mentor and friend, as I have had the honor of performing in the Silkroad Ensemble since 2005, which he founded. He was generous enough to agree to learn a special "solo feature" cello part I composed especially for him to play as part of my original song, "When the Birds Sing Along in the Morning". This song was inspired by the life and values of the legendary 20th-Century cellist Pablo Casals, and Yo-Yo could be seen as the current torch-bearer for Casals' legacy as today's most famous cellist/humanitarian. To be able to feature him in this tribute is really a dream come true!
